CEDAR CITY, Utah --- UC Irvine women's soccer got its first win of the season in the final minutes of play taking down Southern Utah at Thunderbird Soccer Field, 1-0, Thursday afternoon.

Setting The Tone

The 'Eaters held a majority of the possession in the first half that was backed up by a 4-2 shot advantage and the only two corner kicks in the first 45.
Clara Samson had a shot on goal in the 12th minute, and Savanna Arruda made a save on a dive in the 24th minute as the only two chances on frame.
Gianna Costello made her season debut entering in the 29th minute

Final Impact

Play resumed with UCI getting a majority of the early chances, but nothing on frame. Southern Utah earned a handful of corners and the Anteaters defended well against.
Clara Samson had the first solid chance ringing a set piece off the crossbar in the 78th minute.
Things really heated up in the final 10 minutes
- A long set piece from beyond midfield by the Thunderbirds fell to them inside the box with a high shot punched high by Savanna Arruda in the 82nd minute
- Just a minute later, the 'Eaters were on the doorstep with Lianna Tsabur's shot deflected and somehow kept out by the Thunderbird keeper
- UCI finally found the magic touch in the 86th minute. Oona Hartman received the ball along the left wing, danced along the endline, and fed Mimi Dominguez in front of goal who was able to poke a shot up and in for the 1-0 Anteater lead

Dominguez opened her Anteater account with her first career goal, game-winner, and point, and marks her fourth career goal.
The assist from Hartman marks the first career point for the player in her third collegiate season and first with the Anteaters
Arruda saved three shots on the afternoon and picked up her first win and shutout of the season, second career win, and third career shutout

The 'Eaters are back home for their next two matches starting Thursday, September 10 vs. San Diego at 6:00 p.m.
