Anteaters Fall 2-1 to Long Beach State

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's soccer fell in its Black & Blue Rivalry match with Long Beach State Saturday night in Anteater Stadium, 2-1.
The rivals played a spirited first half with most of the soccer being played between the boxes.
LBSU had a huge chance in the 15th minute as the ball fell into the six-yard box with back-to-back shots that were saved by Sara Paul and Oona Hartman to keep the match scoreless and into the half, 0-0.
The second half was action packed with reviews and penalties happening and each end of the field. In the 74th minute, LBSU challenged a handball call and the review overturned the initial ruling putting Ameera White on the spot and converting for a 1-0 lead.
UCI answered on the other end in the 75th minute from a set piece. Clara Samson delivered into the box and Allison Rabe got a head on it flicking it inside the far post to tie things, 1-1.
In the 77th minute, another call was challenged and overturned as a handball to put White and LBSU back at the spot to convert and lead again, 2-1.
The same scenario played out in the 79th minute for the Anteaters as they challenged and earned a handball and penalty kick. Mimi Dominguez stepped up but sailed the shot high as the match would play out for a 2-1 LBSU victory.
For Rabe, her goal is the first of her career giving her three points on the season. Samson's assist was her first of the season also giving her three points.
Sara Paul and her defenders stopped five shots with Paul recording two and three others from defenders.
The 'Eaters fall to 4-7-3 on the season and 2-4-1 in Big West play. Next up is a road match, Wednesday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m.
