Off And Running
- The game was afoot from the get-go with a pair of goals coming in the first 10 minutes
- San Diego jumped on a defensive error by the 'Eaters, and Marissa Morales and Ella Callanan dished to each other with Morales putting one home high over the diving Savanna Arruda to lead, 1-0, in the fourth minute
- UCI even things up in the 10th minute. Mimi Dominguez shot up the left wing and feed a ball in front of goal from the endline that Ariane Haysman Boaler flicked on to Fiona Shin whose volley banked off the post and in to make it 1-1
- The Toreros were back on the attack earning multiple corner kicks, and Arruda was up to the tasked making two outstandings saves to keep things in line
- USD eventually got their lead back following a corner kick in the 30th minute
- An entry bounced around the box, and Arruda was upended allowing Lily Johnson to snipe one through the crowded box and take the lead, 2-1
- The first half included three different video reviews
- Twice the official went to review in the 24th minute, first initiated by the Toreros to see if there was a handball before a corner which was not substantiated
- Seconds later, a shot on goal from USD went to the goalline before Oona Hartman stuck her foot out to deny it. The officials went to review to confirm and the play stood
- USD's second goal went under review from a UCI challenge claiming Arruda was upended because of a foul, but that was unfounded
- The second half was full of Anteater advances searching for another game-tying goal
- UCI's best chance came in the 63rd minute as Allison Rabe floated a entry right onto Mimi Dominguez in stride as her head fell onto USD keeper Chloe Walls who saved it and her defense swept away another Anteater attempt
- Dominguez came knocking a minute later lacing a shot towards the far post that Walls also needed to save
- Dominguez and Clara Samson each put up long range shots that just flew high of the bar as UCI could not catch up to the Toreros
- USD added an insurance goal late starting a counter up the right wing. Johnson flung a cross through the box that hit Ella Callanan who was able to gather and beat Arruda off her mitt and in for a 3-1 advantage in the 89th minute.
- Shin's goal was her first goal and point of the season and her second goal as an Anteater
- Dominguez added an assist, her first as an Anteater and her collegiate career, as she takes the team lead in points at three
- Haysman BoalerΒ put up her first point of the season and second as an Anteater
- Arruda collected four saves much like her counterpart for USD. UCI finished with the 10-9 edge in shots on the match
