- Things were great early on for the Anteaters gaining the lead in the first inning and pushing it to 8-1 at one point.
- Alonso Reyes connected for a two-out, three-run home run in the first inning for the 3-0 early edge
- The 'Eaters loaded the bases in the second inning and Frankie Carney's walk and Auggie Gutierrez's groundout pushed two more across to lead 5-0
- After UCSD got on the board, the first three hitters of the third inning for UCI went for extra bases with Carney tripling, Gutierrez doubling him home, and Reyes launching his second home run of the game for an 8-1 lead in the fourth inning
- Trevor Hansen was cruising as he entered the fifth inning as he struck out the leadoff hitter for his eighth of the night before the Triton bats woke up and flipped the game around
- A home run got UCSD off the mat to make it 8-2 in favor of UCI
- Three straight Tritons reached to end Hansen's night, and Ricky Ojeda entered
- All six batters Ojeda faced continued the scoring with the only out recorded a sacrifice fly
- A two-out double tied the game, and following a walk, a single gave UCSD the 9-8 lead from a seven-run fifth inning
- The Tritons added another for a 10-8 lead before UCI mounted its own comeback
- Landon Gaz hit one out to pull to within 10-9 in the seventh inning
- In the eighth, consecutive one-out hits set the table for Auggie Gutierrez who executed a perfect squeeze bunt to push across the tying run, 10-10
- Danny Suarez entered to hold things in the eighth. A pair of walks brought up Michael Crossland with two outs, and his grounder went off of Suarez's glove and just barely into left field to plate the go-ahead run, 11-10
- UCI put up a valiant fight in the ninth getting runners on the corners with just one out, but an infield popout and a fly ball to center field was not enough to extend the game in the ninth inning
- Anteater pitching fared well outside of the fifth inning allowing four runs the rest of the game
- Trevor Hansen piled up eight strikeouts in just 4.1 innings and escaped a pair of jams in the early innings
- Tyler Foster did allow an inherited runner to score, but finished with two scoreless innings on his stat line and two strikeouts
- The offense came ready putting up just its third game of the season with 10 or more runs
- Alonso Reyes set a team high this season with his five RBIs. It's also the first two-HR game for an 'Eater this year after there were three in 2025 including Chase Call's at the NCAA Regional
- Frankie Carney had another three-hit game and scored twice and drove in another. He's now hitting .371 in Big West play
- Landon Gaz was briefly tied for the team home run lead before regaining it with his fifth of the year.
- Auggie Gutierrez drove in three runs in three separate plate appearances to go with his two-hit night

"UCSD slugs and walks, and we walked or hit 11, couldn't get off the field in the fifth inning, and pitched it pretty good the other seven which has been a story of a lot of our season is that big inning completely killing us and that was the case tonight."
"We did good things on offense. We scored 10 runs, but this is the type of game you needed to score 12. We did some good things especially early on against Murdock, and then to come back late, set the table in the ninth to have a chance to tie or win, but that was a game that needed to be 12-11 to win."
