IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine baseball was shut out Friday night in Anteater Ballpark falling 4-0 to Cal State Bakersfield

The visitors got the jump with a run in the first inning. An infield single, grounder to move them in scoring position, and a single through the middle made it 1-0, Roadrunners
UCI could never figure out CSUB starter Ryan King as he scattered five hits and two walks in seven innings
- Efren Ortega and Zach Fjelstad reached multiple times in the game
- UCI's best chance to score came with two outs in the fourth inning
  - A two-out bloop single to right field put Ortega on base
  - Zach Crandall followed with a double into the right field corner, and Ortega attempted to come around to score, but was thrown out at home to end the inning
Bakersfield would tack on three more runs in a fifth inning that featured a successful hit-and-run, a squeeze play where the batter ended up on third base following an errant throw and scoring two, and a double steal with an out at the plate that was overruled as obstruction to allow the fourth CSUB run of the game

Friday was the second time the 'Eaters have been held scoreless this season
Pitching did hold CSUB to just two earned runs
- Finnegan Wall making his 25th career start went 4.2 innings with four strikeouts
- Ryder Brooks locked down the final 4.1 innings on 55 pitches with five strikeouts and just one baserunner allowed from a walk
UCI's postseason chances took a hit now needing a win and Cal State Fullerton loss on the regular season's final day to finish in a three-way tie for the final championship spot and look for tiebreakers to fall their way

The finale is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. between Hunter Manning and CSUB's Ethan Minaker. UCI will celebrate their seniors with a pregame ceremony set to begin at 12:30 p.m.
