Hansen, Ojeda Keep 'Eaters Alive with 6-3 Win

- With the season on the line, the pitching duo of Trevor Hansen and Ricky Ojeda stepped up on the mound
- Hansen had things working early posting on strikeout in every inning he pitched
- After the leadoff man reached second in the second, Hansen struck out a pair to eventually strand the runner at second
- Hansen struck out the side in the fourth inning and in the process jumped to seventh all-time in career strikeouts at UCI surpassing Andre Pallante
- He finished with an even 10 strikeouts on the night, his fourth career performance with 10 or more
- The Roadrunners got their first threat going in the sixth inning loading the bases and delivering a two-run single to knock him from the game
- Ojeda was called upon allowing a run on a grounder, but finishing the inning with the 6-3 lead intact
- Ojeda allowed a leadoff double in the seventh before leaving him on second base with the help of two strikeouts
- He picked up a strikeout in each inning he threw finishing with five
- Following that double, Ojeda proceeded to retire the final nine batters of the game to earn his fifth career save and second of the season
- The offense made its mark with a big fifth inning that began as a 0-0 tie
- After leadoff batters reached in the first and second innings that were promptly doubled up, the leadoff hitter made his way to third base this time after a Tommy Farmer double
- Theo Kim dunked a single into right-center to plate each and grab a 2-0 lead
- Later in the inning, Lucas Schermer found the same gap as Kim doubling him and another home to increase the lead to 4-0
- Efren Ortega smashed a clutch single with two outs to complete the five-run frame
- The win keep UCI's head above water needing to sweep the weekend for any chance at the postseason; now 24-26 overall and 13-15 in Big West play
- Later in the evening, UC San Diego completed a 10-6 victory of Cal State Fullerton for the other part of UCI's postseason equation now one game behind with two games remaining
- The win for Hansen boosts him to a 7-4 record on the season and now 22-11 in his career over 46 starts
- His career strikeout total reached 264 settling in seventh in UCI history following the game
- The bats busted out 10 hits led by Theo Kim's two-hit, two-RBI night
- Daniel Polasek reached all five times scoring a run and adding two hits
- Schermer joined Kim with two RBIs on the game while Zach Crandall had two hits
- Zach Fjelstad reached three times and scored twice
