IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team is set to compete in two meets at fellow Big West schools Long Beach State and UC San Diego this weekend. The Anteaters will start in Long Beach with the Challenge Cup on Friday, April 8, before sending three discus throwers down to La Jolla for the Triton Invitational on Saturday, April 9.
The Challenge Cup is a scored meet featuring four Big West teams - UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Cal State Fullerton and host Long Beach State. The hammer throw is the first scheduled men's event at 1:15 p.m., while action on the track is slated for a 3 p.m. start. Noah Holm, Jacob Hawkins and Kyle Tsu are also entered in the discus (1 p.m.) at the Triton Invitational on Saturday.

Noah Holm is unbeaten in the shot put in 2022, winning the event in his first four competitions of the season. He established a personal-record 57-02.25 in an individual victory at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Invitational on March 19. That is the top distance in the Big West this year and ranks fifth in school history.
DISCUS PRESENCE
The Anteaters own four of the top-10 discus marks in the Big West this season. Noah Holm leads the way in fourth (183-06), while Jacob Hawkins is fifth (177-09), Kyle Tsu is sixth (173-09) and Justin Willingham is eighth (171-05). Holm, Hawkins and Tsu also rank among UCI's all-time leaders in the event.
NEW FACES
Liam Miksic (Javelin) is out to an impressive start to his collegiate career with five top-five finishes, including an individual victory at the Vince O'Boyle T&F Classic where he established a personal-record 206-00. Miksic's mark ranks second in school history in the new javelin, and puts him second in the Big West, 23rd in the West Region and among the top-70 in the nation this year. Carlo Reyes added a strong debut on the track with top-10 performances in the 100m (10.86) and 200m (22.32) at the Beach Opener. Maxwell Jefferson, the 2021 California High School State Champion in the 110H, was also ninth in his signature event, while sophomore transfer Ty Sheridan ran a leg on the first-place 4x400 relay. Sheridan went on to establish lifetime-bests of 21.81 in the 200m and 49.02 in the 400m.
ALL-AMERICAN STATUS
Junior Josh Farmer earned second-team All-America honors last year with a 16th-place finish in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Farmer was the fourth Anteater in program history to compete in the decathlon at the NCAA meet, and first since his father, Matt, took 13th in 1991. The San Diego native qualified for the 2021 national championships with a personal-record 7,648 points in an individual victory at the APU Franson Classic. His PR ranks second in program history and stood as the top score in the Big West for the 2021 season.
BIG WEST CHAMP
Senior Kyle Tsu will be looking to defend his Big West title in the shot put this year. Tsu won the event at the 2021 Big West Championships with a collegiate personal-record 59-05.5. He was UCI's first conference champion in the men's shot put since 2015. Tsu is a two-time NCAA regional qualifier and ranks second in school history.
MAKING THE LEAP
After the cancellation of the 2020 season, and a modified 2021 schedule, senior Seth Enochs has his sights set on returning to the postseason. Enochs qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Championships in the long jump where he finished 15th as a sophomore in 2019. He is a three-time Big West scorer in the event with a high finish of second. Enochs owns a wind-aided lifetime-best 25-04, while his wind-legal PR of 25-00.75 ranks fourth in school history. This year, he established a season-best 23-07 in an individual victory at the UCSB Invitational.
