Three Anteaters Compete on First Day of NCAA West Regional

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team kicked off action at the NCAA West First Round Wednesday at John McDonnell Field.
Sophomore Justin Johnson placed 26th in the 200m. He crossed the finish line in 20.92, coming in .04 seconds behind the final time qualifier for Friday's quarterfinal. This was Johnson's second career NCAA appearance. He qualified for the regional meet with a personal-record 20.53, which he ran in a runner-up showing at the Big West Championships. Johnson ranks second in school history.
Junior Logan Lyght finished 27th in the 110m hurdles with a lifetime-best 13.92. Lyght, who concluded his first season as an Anteater, ranks fifth among UCI's all-time leaders. He had three individual victories during the 2026 campaign and scored at the Big West Championships where he was fourth overall.
Senior Darrin Campbell wrapped up Wednesday's action in the javelin where he came in 29th. He had his best throw of the evening on his second attempt, hitting 61.75 meters (202-7). Campbell surpassed 60 meters in five of his nine meets this year, including a season-best 64.24m (210-9) in his 'Eater debut at the Beach Opener. He made his way up to No. 4 in program history.
