UCI Scores 5-1 Exhibition Win over Concordia
August 15, 2026 | Women's Soccer
IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's soccer played another friendly Saturday afternoon defeating their crosstown rivals, Concordia, 5-1 in Anteater Stadium.
The Anteaters soared to a 2-0 first-half lead on a Fiona Shin brace. She netted the opening goal in the 17th minute following a turnover cleared right to her at the top of the box. She was the benificiary of some fine Clara Samson dribbling setting her up for the next goal just under five minutes later for a 2-0 lead.
Concordia broke the silence in the second half after threatening with a pair of shots that needed saving, and the ensuing corner kick was headed in by Mikayla Gonzalez to make it a 2-1 game in the 50th minute.
The 'Eaters came right back and reclaimed their two-goal edge earning a penalty in the 53rd minute that Sophia Speziale converted. Two more goals were added down the stretch first by Lianna Tsabur who knocked home a rebounded after a save on a point-blank Elizabeth Hayes shot in the 68th minute. The final blow came in the 89th minute with Mimi Dominguez's perfect cross settled nicely by Kelsey Swyney who nailed a short-side shot for the fifth and final goal.
The stats favored UCI all around with 18 shots to three, 11 on target to three, and a 5-1 edge on corner kicks earned. UC Irvine found minutes for 26 players in the match included three different keepers.
Next up is a trip up to play at No. 1 Stanford on Sunday, August 23.
