- A true prizefight unfolded with both teams trading blows throughout the game
- The second inning featured a pair of haymakers with Cal Poly drilling a two-out, three-run home run to go up 3-0. UCI answered with a two-out three-run home run of their own off the bat of Rowan Felsch to tie it, 3-3
- Cal Poly homered again in the third inning to grab the lead back, 4-3
- UCI manufactured their first lead of the day getting a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt to score the tying run in the fourth inning, and a sacrifice fly from Tommy Farmer put UCI ahead, 5-4
- The Mustangs tied things back up in the sixth inning doubling home a hit batsman, 5-5, and in the seventh a two-out home run just inside the left field foul pole gave CP the lead back, 6-5
- UCI answered with a two-out hit from Efren Ortega scoring Frankie Carney ahead of the throw off Cal Poly's closer, Nick Bonn, to get back even, 6-6
- A clean eighth inning led to a 6-6 ninth inning where the game was decided
- An innocent enough groundball to Auggie Gutierrez looked like the second out, but he dropped it and threw it high to put a runner on base
- After a single, a hard grounder up the middle was mishandled to load the bases, and the next ball was a sharp grounder that glanced off Lucas Schermer at third base to score the go-ahead run, 7-6
- The Mustangs added another unearned run on a sacrifice fly to lead 8-6 heading to UCI's half of the ninth.
- The 'Eaters put the tying runs on base and made good contact, but right at the Mustang defense to thwart the rally
- Danny Suarez was the hard-luck loser on the day allowing just one earned run in his 2.2 innings
- Ricky Ojeda allowed one run in 3.2 innings of relief work
- Hunter Manning made his first weekend start allowing four runs with two strikeouts in 2.2 innings
- The offense led the day in hits, 12-9, with Alonso Reyes adding three, reaching four times, and scoring twice
- Felsch, Schermer, and Ortega all had two hits and a run with four RBis total between them
