IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine baseball dropped an extra-inning matchup Wednesday vs. Grand Canyon, 9-4, at Anteater Ballpark.

• After getting shutout last night, the visitors got on the board early with a run in the first on a double to put UCI behind, 1-0
  • Two more runs came in for GCU in the fourth on a solo home run to start the frame, and a controversial play as Zach Doyle dove to catch a line drive to end the inning. A replay challenge said Doyle dropped the ball after the catch allowing a second run to score in the inning for a 3-0 GCU lead.
• UCI got two back in the fifth inning with a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2
• Zach Fjelstad ripped a double in the gap to score two more and give UCI the lead, 4-3, in the sixth.
• The Lopes answered back with a two-out rally in the seventh to tie it back up, 4-4
• The bullpens held things up in the eighth, and in the ninth both sides got a runner to third base but could not push anything across.
• UC Irvine's pitching ran out of gas in the tenth. After two singles to start the inning and a sacrifice bunt, the next four hitters got a free pass forcing in three runs to make it a 7-4 game. A wild pitch and a sacrifice fly made it a five-run frame and too much for UCI to make up.

Grand Canyon 9, UC Irvine 4

• Zach Fjelstad had another day at the plate with two hits and two RBIs. Frankie Carney also had two hits meanwhile Dylan Hillman came off the bench to record his first career RBI and hit
• The trio of Jack Ross, Tyler Foster, and Dane Grant earn went multiple innings over the first eight for UCI and each allowing one earned run and striking out eight.
• UCI's six-game homestand finishes out 3-3 for the 'Eaters.

Next up is a trip to the prestigious Live Like Lou Las Vegas College Baseball Classic starting Friday, February 27 meeting up at 2:00 p.m. against Vanderbilt.
