Big Hits Help Top Cal Poly, 11-4

- A couple of Friday night aces had quick 1-2-3 first innings before the offenses went to work
- Cal Poly got singles from their first two hitters in the second inning that both came home from a double to make it 2-0, Mustangs
- The 'Eaters got two on board in their half of the second and Rowan Felsch went deep to swing the lead to UCI, 3-2
- The Anteaters added to it making it a 4-2 lead on an Alonso Reyes RBI double on a hit-and-run
- Cal Poly crept back into it from a solo home run to start hte fourth, and then a run across in the fifth with the batter beating out a double play ball to allow the tying run to score, 4-4
- UCI's offense had a big answer in the sixth inning coming with two outs
- A leadoff Lucas Schermer single got things going as he moved to third base on a sacrifice hit and groundout
- After a pitching change before the groundout, UCI was patient loading the bases with a pair of walks
- A ball in the dirt allowed Schermer to score from third base and take a 5-4 lead that help true after a review
- Daniel Polasek returned to the plate and snuck a flare single into left field beyond the dive of the shortstop to score the other two runners and make it a 7-4 lead
- The offense continued to push it with another two-out rally in the seventh inning
- Zach Fjelstad pelted a ball over the center fielder for a triple that scored three runs
- He would come around on Zach Doyle's double over the left fielder for an 11-4 lead
- Among all the offense from the Anteaters, UCI's pitching rose to the occasion
- Trevor Hansen stayed long enough to earn the win, his fifth of the season and 20th of his career, allowing four runs with no walks and striking out four
- Ricky Ojeda was superb in relief allowing one baserunner on a hit in two scoreless innings
- Peyton Rodgers added a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts
- The usual suspects led the 11-hit barrage for the bats
- Lucas Schermer and Efren Ortega each had two hits with Schermer scoring three times and Ortega twice
- Fjelstad had the other two-hit game driving in three and scoring twice himself
- Felsch hammered his second home run of the season driving home three
- The leadoff spot drove in three with Polasek responsible for two and Zach Doyle off the bench adding another
