'Eaters Begin Month-Long Road Trip at Washington State

1st - UCI became the 2nd team to beat a 1-seed in the first round in 2023, but is now the 1st to also reach the Sweet Sixteen

· Anteater junior Jenika Davis returned to the pitch Sunday for the first time since being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2022. She received treatment and then a transplant in March 2023 through National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). She was honored September 21st, 2023 with that month's CalHOPE Courage Award
· Clara Samson started her account early with a goal 47 seconds into her career, the game-winner at Saint Mary's. She joined three other freshmen in college soccer to score in the opening minute of their team's opening match in 2024 - Shea Collins (34 seconds) for South Carolina and Julia Acosta (40 seconds) for Fordham.
· Anteaters have seen 8 of their 14 points earned by newcomers including Kaitlyn Paculba's two-goal game. Clara Samson and Ivy Williams added points on Samson's goal and Williams' assist, and Lawson Willis earned an assist. Mia Colombini earned the first points of her career this year starting with an assist at Saint Mary's and her first career goal Thursday vs. San Francisco.
· Anteater milestones continue to fall in 2024:
Þ Emilie Castagna played in her 50th match as an Anteater, raising the program total to 102 all-time with 50+ matches. Aislynn Crowder and Chloe Ragon have reached 60 matches
Þ Kiera Smeenge just hit 70 matches with Desiree Mendoza one away from it as well.
Þ Minutes milestones are falling with Kiera Smeenge eclipsing 5,000 career minutes this year, and Mihaela Perez, Crowder, Ragon, and Mendoza have all surpassed 3,000 UCI minutes.

Thursday at the Cougars
· UC Irvine and Washington State match up for the sixth time in program history with the Cougars holding the advantage, 4-1-0. The most recent matchup was a 4-0 defeat in Anteater Stadium in 2013. Prior, the other four meetings came in the 90s. Wazzu has won the last four matchups including the only meeting in Pullman in 1992. UCI's lone win in the series came in the inaugural matchup in 1991 in Irvine, 1-0.
· Last meeting in 2013, the 'Eaters fell 4-0 in Anteater Stadium to fall to 5-4 in the non-conference finale while Washington State unbeaten at 7-0-2. UCI's roster included future pros Mady Solow, Cami Privett, and Mexican National Team player, Clarissa Robles.
· The Cougars are 2-2 to this point starting with a 1-0 loss at Purdue, and losing most recently, 2-0, at No. 2 Stanford. They're spotless at home beating Montana and Idaho. Five different players have netted their goals with Reagan Kotschau putting up a game-winner and an assist. Three have played all 360 minutes with backline members Jenna Studer (1 G) and Reese Tappan (2 A) along with keeper Nadia Cooper who has stopped 17 shots
· Washington State is in their first year of the WCC after one of the staples of the Pac-12. The Cougars are the fourth WCC opponent for the 'Eaters this year with a 1-1-1 record against them, and one final opponent the following week with a trip to Pacific.
· UC Irvine heads on the road for 28 days playing next in Anteater Stadium on September 29. They'll play three times in the four-week odyssey - at Washington State, Pacific, and UCSD.
