IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine baseball put up a convincing victory Sunday in Anteater Ballpark, 11-4, over No. 23 UC Santa Barbara for the all-important series win.

    • Jo Oyama got it going with a two-run home run two batters into the game for a 2-0 lead

    • UCI added some two-out RBIs for expand the lead to 6-0 after the second inning
    • More sun-aided hits helped a three-run rally in the third inning to make it 9-0
  • Meanwhile on the mound, freshman Brandon Luu was coasting along pitching a career high seven innings to dial up his fourth win. He used a six-pitch inning, seven-pitch inning, and four strikeouts to keep the Gaucho offense down
  • The visitors put up a fight with runs in each of the final three frames, but Ricky Tibbett shut the door and his defense backed him up turning a pair of late double plays to seal the game, 11-4

Next up is a midweek trip to Los Angeles to play USC before a weekend series on the road at UC San Diego.

Postgame Thoughts with Woody Hadeen
"We just continue to improve and especially in the showing today. Beating Santa Barbara, and they're put together and a good ballclub, they've been good for a while, so it means a lot to win. And we're looking forward to next week."

"We've got nine great athletes on the field at all times, and it just makes it easy especially in this big ballpark and can cover a lot of ground to go with our infielders who are the best in the nation. It's really fun being out there with them"
