SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's soccer fell in a battle of Big West unbeatens Sunday afternoon at Harder Stadium, 1-0, to UC Santa Barbara

Both teams entered on five-match unbeaten streaks entering the day including wins in each of their last two for UC Irvine while UC Santa Barbara was 3-0-1 in Big West play.

Most of the action came early and often with nine shots between the teams in the match's first 20 minutes
Both keepers were on their toes stopping the eight shots on goal, five for Ashley Naylor herself
Each team had nine shots by the halftime whistle, but no goals found the back of the net

The second half began in UCSB's favor with an early shot on goal, and they would handle a majority of the possession throughout

UCI did not manage a shot in the final 45 minutes though did earn three corner kicks as the teams finished even in that category at seven
The Gauchos produced the match's only goal in the 79th minute as Emily Caughey fired from outside the box on the only attempt Naylor couldn't corral to go down, 1-0
UCI was only called for three fouls in the entire match out of ten total and no cautions

The loss puts the Anteaters at 4-5-3 on the season and 2-1-1 in Big West play with seven points of a possible 12. They return to Anteater Stadium for their next three matches starting Thursday, October 10 hosting Cal State Bakersfield.
