There will be lots of interactive ticketing features involved with the fall contest including:
Alumni Game – Saturday, January 25 – 12:00 PM
The Anteaters welcome back their extensive group of alums for an exhibition matchup with the 2020 'Eaters at Cicerone Field. Alums interested in being part of the event can contact the baseball office at (949) 824-9521 or become part of the alumni base by providing their information here.
Home Opener vs. Rice – February 21-23 - Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark
Anteater Ballpark opens the 2020 season on February 21-23 with a rematch from 2019 against the Rice Owls. The Anteaters tripped up the perennial power a year ago handing them the first sweep in their own ballpark since 1993.
Rice's historic program is coming off consecutive 26-win seasons after putting up 27 consecutive winning seasons and 22 straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. Head Coach Matt Bragga is back for a second season with Rice after coming from Tennessee Tech when he led them to an NCAA Super Regional.
Successful Programs Visit in Early March
The Anteaters bring in some prime competition to Anteater Ballpark in early March
Sacramento State comes in for a three-game series March 6-8. The Hornets have had success with eight straight winning seasons including three NCAA trips and a pair of 40-win seasons with each happening last season with a magical run through the WAC Tournament.
Following them will be Missouri State from March 13-15. The Bears have been one of the most successful programs with 30 winning seasons over the last 36 seasons with 12 40-win seasons in that time. They return after a shortened Anteater visit in 2018 where UCI took two close wins in a doubleheader at their park.
Premier West Coast Battles Come to Anteater Ballpark
Much of the top baseball comes from the West Coast, and regularly they visit UC Irvine with five pivotal midweek matchups on the schedule.
San Diego State - The long-standing matchup with the perennial baseball contender continues. Both sides split their matchups in 2019 with each winning at home. The 2020 series begins at UCI with the first midweek home game of the year with the return trip to Tony Gwynn Stadium slated for April 14
USC - The Trojans were no match for the Anteaters in 2019 losing both matchups, but are under new management with former UCI coach Jason Gill at the reins. USC hosts the first matchup on March 3rd with the trip to Anteater Ballpark scheduled for the end of the month on March 31
Loyola Marymount - The LMU Lions return to Anteater Ballpark after a year away where they posted a successful 34-win year with a WCC Tournament championship and pair of wins in the NCAA Tournament. The 2020 series begins at LMU, where the Lions won a year ago, on April 7, and the teams meet two weeks later in Anteater Ballpark, April 21
UCLA - The Bruins posted 52 wins in 2018 including two over the Anteaters with each coming while they were No. 1 in the nation. The 'Eaters were successful for a second straight year in their fall matchup last weekend. The sides meet up for the first time March 24 at UCLA before bringing it to Anteater Ballpark on April 28
San Diego - Another talented San Diego school put up a 32-win season in 2018 which included a split in the series with UCI as each team defended their home turf. The 2020 series begins early with the very first midweek game at USD on February 18. The return match comes near the end of the season on May 5 to close out UC Irvine midweek home schedule as the third of three straight midweek home games.
Challenging Non-Conference Trips to St. John's, Fresno State, Pac-12 programs
UC Irvine strengthens its non-conference profile with trips to perennial baseball powers and competitive road foes beginning with the Fresno State Bulldogs starting the entire 2020 season on Valentine's Day. The Bulldogs are fresh off a 40-win campaign as they meet up with UCI for the first time since 2015
The road heads to the Pacific Northwest with a rematch with Washington at the end of February. Fresh off an appearance in the 2018 College World Series, the 'Eaters took two of three in the opening series of 2019 in Anteater Ballpark.
Another premier road trip takes the 'Eaters to the state of New York for the first time to face St. John's, March 20-22. A power pitching matchup in 2019 went UCI's way winning two of three by way of shutout. Another winning season still saw the Red Storm fall short of a postseason appearance as they're hungry to get back there in 2020.
The 'Eaters' annual mid-Big West road trip takes them to Washington State, April 17-19. The Anteaters will be three weeks into the competitive Big West season as they travel for their second of two Pac-12 road trips looking to sweep the Cougars once again.
Conference Clashes in Anteater Ballpark with Cal State Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara, Hawai'i, UC Riverside
After a second-place finish in 2018, coach Orloff and the boys have sights set on taking the top spot in the Big West.
Conference play begins with a pair of road series to start at CSUN (March 27-29) and Cal Poly (April 3-5)
The first Big West opponent to visit Anteater Ballpark is UC Riverside with a Thursday-Friday-Saturday weekend April 9-11 on Easter weekend.
Following a trip to Washington State, UCI welcomes a program on the rise, Hawai'i, for April 24-26 right before a home matchup with UCLA and leading into a trip to UC Davis (May 1-3).
The Big West hits hard in the final three weeks of the season starting with a home series against Cal State Fullerton, May 8-10. The 'Eaters then play at Fullerton the following Tuesday, March 12, in a non-conference meeting.
The road continues to Long Beach State, May 15-17, for the final road trip of the season heading right into the regular season finale in Anteater Ballpark against the 2019 Big West champion, UC Santa Barbara
