Baseball Welcomes Assistant Coach Nick Mistone

IRVINE, Calif. --- Head Coach Ben Orloff has reloaded his coaching staff with a fresh voice as his newest assistant coach, Nick Mistone.
"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join such a great coaching staff and university," coach Mistone said of the news adding, "being part of a program with such a rich tradition and history in baseball is truly a blessing. I'm excited to work alongside Ben, JT, Danny, Erich, and CJ, and I look forward to contributing to the continued success of the program. I couldn't be more excited to get started!"
Mistone has California roots as a high schooler from Bonita High School in Upland, Calif. to his collegiate career at Saint Mary's in Moraga, Calif., and most recently coaching on Mt. San Antonio College on the junior college level. In two seasons with Mt. SAC, Mistone worked with catchers while assisting with hitters and infielders during the program's 2025 CCCAA State Championship and helping numerous student-athletes continue their playing careers at the four-year level. Prior to Mt. SAC, Mistone began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Division I program Charleston Southern in South Carolina where he earned his Master's in Organizational Leadership, worked extensively with helping infielders and hitters, helped run the team defense, and was overseeing various aspects of the program's baseball operations.
"Nick has been working the last two years at Mt SAC which is one of the best junior colleges in the state," noted head coach Ben Orloff. "He comes highly recommended from some veteran coaches that I have a lot of respect for. I believe Nick is going to be one of the good, young assistants on the West."
On the field, Mistone played 117 games, 86 times a starter, in a four-year career at Saint Mary's recording 76 career hits, 18 doubles and a home run, and drove in 42 while scoring 42 times primarily has a second baseman, third baseman, and designated hitter. He was named to the WCC All-Academic team as a sophomore, and even in high school had a decorated career earning all-area, all-league, all-tribune, and team MVP and Defensive Player of the Year accolades.
