IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine baseball continues to reconfigure its coaching staff under new head coach Ben Orloff with the addition of assistant J.T. Bloodworth.
Bloodworth was an assistant for the past six seasons at UC San Diego helping build them into the perennial force on the Division II level. The Tritons have reached the NCAA West Regional four times and is coming off consecutive DII College World Series appearances which includes a trip to the finals in 2017.
Under Bloodworth, the Tritons have had a .649 winning percentage in six seasons with an overall record of 218-118 that's seen a pair of CCAA Tournament Championships, and he's helped produce seven MLB Draft selections and two other Tritons that went on to sign free agent contracts.
A middle infielder by trade, he's honed his sense of defense and fielding into his coaching regimen along with helping hitters and coaching third base in his coaching stops.
Bloodworth brings his recruiting background to the Anteaters, something he excelled in during his time at UCSD and his three seasons as an assistant at New Mexico State from 2009-11 coaching alongside head coach Rocky Ward and Hall of Famer Gary Ward. The Aggies topped a school record with 44 wins in his first campaign as his expertise on the defensive side dramatically improved the team's fielding.
A graduate of Dallas Baptist University, Bloodworth played three seasons for the Patriots including on the program's first-ever NCAA Regional squad in 2008. He began his collegiate career in 2004 under head coach Andy Lopez at the University of Arizona. Bloodworth graduated with a sport management degree in 2009 from DBU adding a Master of Arts the very next year.
