FRESNO, Calif. --- UC Irvine baseball had its impressive start to the season halted Friday night at Pete Beiden Field in Bob Bennett Stadium falling for the first time in 2023, 13-1, to the hosts Fresno State.

- UC Irvine's winning streak that began at the end of the 2023 season ends as well at 18 consecutive victories, second-longest in program history
- The offense was held in check with one run. That came in the seventh inning after Anthony Martinez doubled, moved to third on a foulout, and scored on a wild pitch to make it a 6-1 deficit at the time
- The Bulldogs used the long ball homering three times including the first runs on the board in the fourth from a three-run home run and adding a two-run homer in the sixth
- Anteater starter Nick Pinto was issued the loss to drop to 3-1 in this his 50th career start. He went five innings striking out four and responsible for three runs
- Other notable streaks like Caden Kendle's on-base streak was extended to 56 games thanks to a ninth-inning double. Myles Smith walked but did not cross home plate for the first time in 13 games.
UCI completes their week Saturday with a 5:00 p.m. start vs. Columbia that will wrap up five games in five days and four games in three days up in Fresno as

Postgame Thoughts from head coach Ben Orloff
"A long day. I think we knew when we came up here we're going to play four games in three days. It's mixed emotions when you have the game we had this afternoon and then this one. We're off to a heck of a start, I don't think us losing this game changes anything. So tomorrow will be important and we've got a chance to finish off a good trip up here and a good week."
"We're obviously disappointed to lose. We've got a good group, it hurts to lose and that's unfortunately part of it. We'll be back at it tomorrow."
