IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine baseball put up another offensive display for a 12-4 win Saturday in Anteater Ballpark to clinch a series win over Cal State Bakersfield.
- Another hot start for UCI as they scored a run in the first inning on Thomas McCaffrey's two-out single. They followed that up with another two-out rally highlighted by Anthony Martinez's three-run home run in the second to make it a 5-0 UCI lead.
- Trevor Hansen made the pitches while the offense was cooking shutting out the Roadrunners through five innings and dancing around five hits
- The 'Eaters plated two runs in the fourth inning before CSUB got to Hansen for two of their own on four sixth-inning singles as UCI lead, 7-2
- The patient bats adding much needed insurance in the eighth inning walking five times that led to five runs to take a 10-run lead and eventually the 12-4 final score
- Hansen records his first career quality start striking out nine with one walk over six innings to improve to 3-0 and win his first in Anteater Ballpark
- For a second straight day, Anthony Martinez drove in four runs. Woody Hadeen added a four-hit day, and the pair along with Luke Spillane each scored three runs
UCI maintains a tie for the Big West lead now 4-1 while improving to 17-3 overall.
Sunday's series finale now has a new first pitch time of 6:00 p.m. In an effort to avoid the impending weather, the game will be moved from its original 1:00 p.m. start time. Freshman
Brandon Luu takes the mound for the Anteaters opposing CSUB's Kellen O'Connor.
Postgame Thoughts with Woody Hadeen
"Trevor definitely put us in a good position, he had four of five zeroes; that always helps the offense a little bit. Especially getting to play from ahead, that's a big thing. It all starts with pitching, and because of that the offense had a great day. Defense, too. We practice the double plays a lot. It's nice to see that in a game."
