SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's soccer earn another victory taking down Cal Poly, 2-0, on the road Thursday night at Spanos Stadium.
The 'Eaters now have seven points out of nine in the first three Big West matches and two of them shutouts. UCI was out-shot in each half and in the entire match, 14-6, but made their shots count scoring twice.
- UCI's first goal came on a set piece with Lawson Willis setting up for a corner kick. Her knuckler hit Laila El Behery right in the middle of the six-yard box and in for a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute
- The second strike also came on a header from a corner kick. In the opposite corner of the pitch, Mihaela Perez set up and lofted a ball right onto Milan Heisdorf who put it home for a 2-0 lead in the 76th minute
- Heisdorf's goal is the first of her career giving her three points now through her first 11 matches
- El Behery now have four goals in as many games which include two game-winners in that span giving her three in her career
The defense made their mark holding off the Mustang attack.
Ashley Naylor posted her second solo shutout as an Anteater and fourth win
- Naylor saved six shots tying her high as an Anteater
- Her six shots are the fourth-most in her career spanning 42 matches, and its the most career saves in a shutout
- The biggest of the match came in the 30th minute as the Mustangs fired a shot toward the far post that Naylor needed a dive to knock away. Cal Poly gathered the rebound and shot across the goalmouth by Naylor that her defense cleared right to her for the seventh save of the match to keep things scoreless
UC Irvine sits with seven points, tied for third in the Big West, and 1 of 3 Big West schools unbeaten through three Big West matches. Overall, UCI is riding a five-match unbeaten streak (3-0-2)
- Assists on the night came from fifth-years Lawson Willis and Mihaela Perez
- Willis now has two as an 'Eater for a grand total of 11 in her collegiate career
- Perez takes over the team lead with three assists this season including in each of the last two matches
- The match ended on a sour note with an injury in 88th minute to Aislynn Crowder as she was carted off the field
The road trip continues Sunday at Big West leaders UC Santa Barbara with a 12:00 p.m. kickoff. The Gauchos have 10 points (3-0-1) through four Big West matches following a 3-1 win Thursday vs. Long Beach State
