Β·Β Grad transfer Madison Goerlinger made her Anteater debut Sunday, the first new face to see minutes for UCI this season. She played 70 matches and over 5,000 minutes at Arizona previously. Her teams are 3-1 all-time when playing Oregon State with her logging 318 minutes.
Β·Β UC Irvine's effort has earned it 48 corner kicks in 2023 already, 14 more than the next most in the conference for an average of 8.0 a match which ranks 13th nationally.
Thursday vs. the Beavers
Β·Β UC Irvine matches up with its third Pac-12 opponent Thursday at Oregon State. It's had the edge in the series, 8-3, including a 5-1 record in Corvallis with shutout wins most recently in 2013 and 2012. Oregon State got the better of UCI in the most recent meeting at UCI back in 2021. OSU is 2-2-1 so far including a loss to Pacific, win vs. UCSD, and draw with Portland.
Β·Β The Beavers are led by junior McKenna Martinez creeping up the OSU record books and with two goals, an assist, and nearly half their shots. Junior Amaya Bautista plays big minutes on the backline and returns along with Valerie Tobias as goal scorers from the 2021 matchup. Β·Β UC Irvine and Portland reprise their matchup for a 10th time. Portland has the 7-2 advantage with both programs unbeaten at home and UP 6-0 against the 'Eaters in Portland. A storied program is coming off 12 wins in 2022 and a season that was also ended in the NCAA Tournament by Alabama. At 2-1-1, UP has played tight 1-0 matches beating CSUN and UC Davis, losing to Washington St., and drawing 1-1 at Oregon State, and will play Seattle Thursday
Β·Β The Pilots run behind their defense allowing 7.5 shots a match, nine total shots on target, and nine corners all year behind names like Camille Ashe, Keeley Dockter, Katana Norman, and Isabella Yakel and Bre Norris there for seven saves.
