Anteater Signings: Mimi Dominguez and Mimi Yamamoto
June 01, 2026 | Women's Soccer
IRVINE, Calif.-- UC Irvine women's soccer continues to bolster the roster with a pair of Spring transfers from Power Four programs, Mimi Dominguez and Mimi Yamamoto.
The duo is the just the beginning of the transfer window additions and makes it 16 newcomers to the program this year and three transfers, all from Power Four schools.
"We have been really focused on bringing in experience in the right areas of the pitch during this transfer window," head coach Scott Juniper noted. "Our staff have researched many, many players and came up with a shortlist of players we thought could come in and make an impact right away with the right qualities. Starting with these two, they're players that will do that for us, and we are really happy they have joined the Anteater soccer family. We have proven over a long period of time that we are an excellent destination for transfers and this group will benefit from our experience of integrating new players quickly. I am happy to see a duo of hungry student-athletes eager to give so much to our team culture."
Mimi Dominguez returns to the Big West and her third school in three years producing success everywhere she has been. The Covina-native was All-Big West Honorable Mention and Big West All-Freshman Team as a freshman for UC Riverside where she led the team in points, goals, and shots scoring three times. She headed east to SEC country and the University of Kentucky last year where she added an assist in 10 matches played for the Wildcats that won 12 matches, finished fifth in the 16-team conference, and reached the NCAA Tournament. Dominguez was a two-time ECNL All-Conference player in her club action for LA Breakers and led her high school team in goals all four seasons breaking the Bishop Amat record with 118 high school goals.
"Mimi Dominguez made an impact in our conference as a freshman before heading onto an adventure at Kentucky. We couldn't be happier that she has decided to come home and choose UCI. Mimi can play in any attacking position but could see early action at the number 9 spot. She is strong, excellent at holding the ball up and has explosive pace when she has space to run at defenders. We will give her the freedom to play her personality, and we have the players around her to create a lot of problems in the attacking third." - coach Juniper
Mimi Yamamoto returns to California for her second year of collegiate soccer. A San Jose native was a two-time NorCal Conference champion at FC Bay Area Surf and competed for St. Francis High School. She made her way to the University of Utah as a freshman seeing play time in two matches in both the midfield and on the backline while beginning her electrical engineering degree.
"Mimi Yamamoto will bring an ability to play anywhere in the middle of the pitch. She can connect the game in front of the back four, play in and out of tight spaces and will help us progress the ball through the zones. We are so happy she chose UCI and I am looking forward to getting her on the field with her new teammates as soon as possible. Our team really enjoyed spending time with her on her visit and her transition into the squad will benefit from that early connection." - coach Juniper
