IRVINE, Calif.-- The veteran core of UC Irvine women's soccer continues to strength with another fifth-year returning to the fold for 2023 in Alyssa Moore.
"Although we have had two very successful seasons back-to-back, this team is eager to learn, grow, and keep pushing towards a higher standard. I am so excited to come back and be a part of this season because we are capable of accomplishing so much more!"
The Anteater striker has been right in the middle of some of the biggest moments of the last two seasons which include her game-winner to defeat UCLA in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, goals in each of UCI's First and Second Round matchups in 2022 to defeat USC and advance past Brown, and a vital cog in both Big West Championship runs to earn the Anteaters their automatic berths.
Alyssa Moore scored some incredibly historic goals for us," noted head coach Scott Juniper. "She scored the winner against UCLA in 2021, plus Cal, USC and Brown in 2022. She is a great example of how hard work and dedication over a long period of time will set you up for success. Her energy is amazing, she has so much athleticism and competitive spirit, and she covers more ground that pretty much everyone else on a daily basis. I wouldn't want to play against her."
Moore enters her fifth year with the program, but is still making up for two years she missed in 2019 and 2020 recovering from ACL surgery taking away two full years of soccer. Since getting back to full health, Moore has scored 12 goals with five game-winners and assisted on four more in her 38 matches and nearly 2,000 minutes. The criminology, law, and society major has also been part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee taking on the title of president last year and still working with the group to transition to new leadership following her fall graduation.
