IRVINE, Calif.-- UC Irvine women's soccer adds a final freshman to the mix in goal with another Northern California talent, Avery Gleason..
Β
Gleason hails from right in the heart of Northern California in Oakdale and Oakdale High School. She's spent some time with the soccer team, but mostly took part with the basketball and volleyball teams for the Mustangs. A four-year varsity player and two-year captain on the basketball team, Gleason was two-time all-league, part of the All-Defensive Team,Β and finished as the school's all-time leading rebounder with 616. In volleyball, she captained the team in two of her three years on the court earning all-league honors twice. All the while, she wasΒ pursuing her interests in the classroom in Drama Club, theatre, and band to help toward earning the school's Distinguished Young Woman honor this year.Β
The goalkeeper's soccer career has mostly come on the club level as the captain for West Coast Soccer Club for the last four years. She was also an invitee to the Girls Academy National Talent ID team, and took home an NPL League Championship in 2025.
"Avery is a very accomplished goalkeeper. She has great hands, distributes the ball really well, and communicates really well with her back line. We have a rich tradition of goalkeeping at UCI and with Wendy directing the goalkeeper strategy, Avery is perfectly placed to grow fast." - head coach Scott Juniper
