Farmer Wraps up Decathlon at Bryan Clay Invitational

AZUSA, Calif. -
Josh Farmer wrapped up his first decathlon of the season Thursday at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
 
Farmer claimed runner-up honors in Group A, finishing with a two-day, 10-event total of 7,588 points. He came in behind two-time first-team All-American Max Vollmer of Oregon.
 
Farmer kicked off the second day of the decathlon with a third-place finish in the 110m hurdles where he notched a season-best 14.92. The San Diego native then started the discus with a toss of 123-05, which stood as his best of the afternoon. Farmer also cleared 15-01 in the pole vault and registered a mark of 136-11 in the javelin, before closing out the meet with a collegiate personal-record 4:37.11 in the 1500m.
 
On Wednesday, Farmer set lifetime bests in the 100m (10.62) and 400m (47.80), while adding season bests in the long jump (23-10.75) and shot put (45-01).
 
The distance crew was also in action at the Bryan Clay Invite with Lukas Amare (14:40.19) and Zeid Hussain (14:51.71) pacing the Anteaters in the 5000m Open. Miles Duncan (1:51.95) and Jason Messner (1:59.50) competed in the 800m as well.
 
Over in Long Beach, Drew Pickett led the 'Eaters at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate as he won the 110m hurdles in a personal-record 14.19 seconds. Pickett moved up two spots to No. 8 on UCI's all-time charts.
 
Malcolm Overbaugh ran a season-best 48.81 for a fifth-place showing in the 400m. Eric Parker was also seventh at 48.98.
 
Overbaugh added a top-10 showing in the 200m, coming in ninth at 22.07 seconds, while Parker notched a season-best 22.41 despite running into a slight headwind. In the 100m, Carlo Reyes finished in the top half of the field with a time of 10.85.
 
At the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Noah Holm was the Anteaters' top finisher in the discus and shot put. He was 13th overall in the discus with a toss of 170-08, while he took 18th in the shot put at 54-04. Kyle Tsu also came in 15th in the discus (167-04).
 
UC Irvine will be back in action on Friday, April 15, as it is set to compete in the 1500m at the Bryan Clay Invitational, while kicking off the two-day Beach Invitational.
