UC Irvine baseball dropped its season opener the night before, and through four innings of game two of the series at Fresno State only one run of offense to its name. UCI's 2020 catalyst Jake Palmer jolted them onto the board with an RBI double as they trailed now, 3-1. Jacob Castro's two-run double tied things up the next inning, and then as the Bulldogs regained their two-run lead the next inning, Castro was there to clean up again with an RBI single to top off a four-run frame and 7-5 lead.
Fresno State continued to knock on the door earning a run back, but Gordon Ingebritson shut the door in his first career UCI appearance holding the Bulldogs down in two innings of work. With the icing on top was an eruption in the ninth inning of four runs from the Anteaters with a Riley Kasper three-run home run putting the bow on UCI's first victory of the 2020 season.
Ingebritson earned the win in his first career game, and John Vergara scored a save in five outs helping Peter Van Loon who held things together from a no decision after 5.1 innings. Kasper's first career home run punctuated the offensive onslaught complimented by Jake Palmer's three-hit game, Jacob Castro's two doubles and three RBI, and a huge 4-for-4 day with two runs and two RBI from Adrian Damla.
