John Jensen
Baseball / Senior
March 3
The Anteaters were in a duel at USC on this Tuesday in early March as the squads fought to a scoreless tie through five innings. The 'Eaters broke through for a run in the sixth to go up, 1-0, on the back of Nick Pinto's pitching, but the offense didn't get its first hit until the seventh inning. With two on and two out, John Jensen was called upon as a pinch-hitter with all the power in the world and he delivered.
Jensen blasted a shot well out to right-center breaking the game open after the three-run home run to make it 4-0. UCI never looked back finishing off the Trojans with a 5-1 win getting them back to .500 on the year.
"I was waiting for my name to get called and help the team win any way I could, trying to put a good swing on it and have a good at-bat for my team. I was just trying to work a good at-bat and get on base any way I could and it happened to go over the fence. I'm pretty sure it was a fastball, but I kind of blacked out a little. I was just so fired up for the team and to help get this win. Hopefully we can build off this."
Jensen came on strong making this game his second straight with a hit, both as a pinch-hitter, and both going for extra bases. The home run was the second in his two years as an Anteater where he's collected 19 hits and 13 RBI.
