Adrian Damla, a senior on the baseball team, has held a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better as an Education Sciences major in the UCI School of Education. His academic achievements recently earned him recognition on the 2019 Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll. In addition, Damla has had the opportunity to display the skills he learned in the classroom by working with kids in afterschool programs.
Last year, the infielder earned first-team All-Big West honors after recording a .299 batting average and 39 RBIs in 51 games. Damla continued his success into 2020, racking up nine hits and six RBIs in the first six games of the year. He started each of the Anteaters' 15 games in the shortened season, notching a team-leading 12 RBIs which was tied for seventh overall in the Big West Conference. The La Crescenta native came up in the clutch against Rice on Feb. 22, going 2-for-3 and delivering the game-winning RBI in the sixth inning of a tight 2-1 victory.
When his playing career is over, Damla hopes to utilize his academic and athletic experiences to stay around the game and coach baseball at the college level.
