IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team makes its way to the Inland Empire this weekend for the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic, March 22-23.
For the Anteaters, the meet gets underway Friday with the hammer throw at 2 p.m. They will then get ready for a busy Saturday, beginning with the long jump at 10:30 a.m. The track events are also slated for a 1 p.m. start (4x100). The 'Eaters have 22 individuals entered in 13 events.
STORYLINES
• The Anteaters have a good mix of experience and youth with 16 returners and 10 newcomers.
• They welcome back four All-Big West performers in Asa Allen, Andres Woodruff, Paul Resong and Kyle Sandoval.
• The 'Eaters remain in Southern California for all of their regular-season meets.
• The only time UCI travels outside of the region is for NCAA postseason competition.
• The NCAA West Prelims are in Sacramento, while the NCAA Championships will take place in Austin, Texas.
LAST TIME OUT
• Two 'Eaters posted marks that rank among the top-10 in program history at last week's UCI Spring Collegiate Classic.
• Sophomore Seth Enochs defended his individual title in the long jump with a personal-record 24-07.
• His improvement gave him sole possession of No. 5 on UCI's all-time charts, passing Ricky Holliday's 24-05.5 (1983).
• Redshirt freshman Kyle Tsu also registered the Anteaters' eighth-best distance in the shot put at 55-02.75.
• Andres Woodruff, Enochs, Asa Allen and Evan Singletary won the 4x100 relay in 41.54 seconds.
• Senior Asa Allen made his season debut in the 110m hurdles, his primary event, and finished second overall (14.77).
• Junior transfer Brennan Doyle was also the runner-up in the 400m, clocking in at 48.45.
• Junior Andres Woodruff added a third-place showing in the 400m hurdles (54.08).
• Junior Sam Ayala led a trio of Anteaters in the 1500m, coming in third with a lifetime-best 3:51.33.
PATIENCE PAYS OFF
• Kyle Tsu, who sat out the 2018 campaign with an injury, made his long-awaited collegiate debut at the Beach Opener.
• On a rainy Saturday in Long Beach, he claimed runner-up honors in the shot put with a toss of 51-00.25.
• Just two weeks later, he went for a season-best 55-02.75 to crack UCI's all-time top-10, coming in at No. 8.
• The Huntington Beach native also owns a season-best 166-07 in the discus.
• Through three meets, Tsu has finished no lower than sixth in the shot put, and no lower than ninth in the discus.
NEW ERA
• Sophomore Seth Enochs earned his fourth career victory in the long jump last weekend.
• He defended his title at the UCI Spring Break Collegiate Classic with a personal-best 24-07.
• With that mark, Enochs took over sole possession of fifth in the school record books.
• It was the best jump by an Anteater since Bob Rust reached 25-01 in 1984.
• Enochs, who is 20 years old, was born after each of the other top-10 marks were established.
• He is the first 'Eater to enter UC Irvine's long jump records in 26 years.

• UC Irvine heads to Los Angeles next week for the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival and Jim Bush Legends Invitational.
• The meets will be held on March 29 & 30, respectively, with both competitions taking place at UCLA's Drake Stadium.
