IRVINE, Calif. --- Baseball season flows into the summer with 24 Anteaters joining summer league teams for the next couple months.
The big selection was announced already with Andre Pallante joining the U.S. Collegiate National Team as the second Anteater in as many years representing for Team USA. Pallante's schedule stretches for 16 games starting with a matchup against the Coastal Plains League Select team on June 27 in Cary, N.C. before getting into it against national teams from Chinese Taipei, Japan, and Cuba for five-game series each against the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
In the summer's premier league, again two Anteaters will be among the nation's best in the Cape Cod League. Christian Koss returns to the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox for a second straight summer, and is joined on the Red Sox by Trenton Denholm.
The largest congregation of 'Eaters once again will be in the West Coast League sprawled out across Washington and Oregon with eight players dealt among six squads. Dylan Riddle and Ryan Johnston team up on the Walla Walla Sweets once again while first-timers Jacob Castro and Andre Antone will play for the newly-formed Port Angeles Lefties. Miles Glazier returns to the fold back with the Corvallis Knights, and freshmen Brian Marquez (Wenatchee Apple Sox), Brendan Brooks (Yakima Valley Pippins), and Michael Frias (Portland Pickles) make their first WCL appearances.
The Northwoods League is represented with four Anteaters all on different squads highlighted with three sophomores - Mikey Filia (Kenosha Kingfish), Adrian Damla (Green Bay Bullfrogs), and Kaz Akamatsu (Wisconsin Rapids Rafters) and freshman Mike Peabody (Rochester Honkers).
The remaining Anteaters are strewn across various leagues starting with the local Great West League where redshirt Johnny Pacheco and incoming infielder Jae Woo Park near Sacramento for the Lincoln Potters. Two other incoming Anteaters will team up down the street with the SoCal Sparrows of the Sunset League in Sam Ireland and Nathan Church.
