IRVINE, Calif. --- The National College Baseball Hall of Fame has released their list of finalists for the National Pitcher of the Year award which includes Anteater sophomore Andre Pallante.
The right-handed ace is among the top five pitchers in the country as finalized by the Hall of Fame's committee. The other nominees hail from NCAA Tournament programs in Brady Singer (Florida), Logan Gilbert (Stetson), Luke Heimlich (Oregon State), and the other sophomore in the group, Sean Mooney (St. John's).
Pallante was recently named All-Big West First Team after leading the conference with a 10-1 record and 1.60 ERA which ranks sixth in the nation. Over 101.1 innings pitched, he struck out 115 batters, second-best in the Big West, and allowed opposing hitters to bat .206 in a standout sophomore campaign
"We think this may be the strongest group of finalists that we have ever had," said Chris Snead, co-chair of the Pitcher of the Year Award. "Each of these student athletes brings their own strengths to the table and could be the winner in their own right."
The award will be presented later this summer by the College Baseball Foundation
