IRVINE, Calif. --- Anteater men's soccer standout Brad Evans announced his retirement from professional soccer Monday morning after 12 seasons in Major League Soccer.
As an Anteater, Evans played from 2003-06 where he was Big West and National Player of the Week three times, Big West Midfielder of the Year once and Offensive Player of the Year twice, was twice named All-Far West Region, and became the program's first All-American his senior year of 2006 leaving as the program's all-time leader in points (73), goals (31), and game-winning goals (10) over 75 matches.
From there, he was selected in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew in 2007, and in just his second season helped the Crew win an MLS Cup title. He was promptly off to Seattle to join the Seattle Sounders FC as being selected in the 2009 expansion draft just three days after winning the title.
Evans' career blossomed with the Sounders as he played 200 matches with the club and put home 20 goals. He was a vital part of the formation spending time as a forward, midfielder, and defender. He would grow into a role as the team's captain, and became more of a fixture with the U.S. Men's National Team which included his only career international goal helping defeat Jamaica in stoppage time in a 2013 World Cup Qualifier.
Evans' captaincy would take the Sounders to the MLS Cup for the first time in 2016, and his penalty kick shootout goal help Seattle to its first MLS Cup victory. He would leave the Sounders following the 2017 season after nine years with the club and join up with Sporting Kansas City in 2018. He played four matches with their USL side, Swope Park Rangers, before calling it a career in December.
He would total 230 MLS matches over his career and 27 caps with the USMNT scoring 25 times in MLS play and 35 in all competitions. His teams earned eight trophies over his 12 seasons of professional soccer including two MLS Cups, two Supporters Shields, and four U.S. Open Cups.
Head Coach Yossi Raz
