IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine men's soccer jumped in front of the ninth-ranked San Diego Toreros Tuesday night in Anteater Stadium, but a second-half flurry put the visitors ahead for a 2-1 victory.

Captain's Orders

The scoring started early with UCI ringing one home in the ninth minute
- An Anteater attack led to the edge of the box with Marcus Lee, Gage Lyons, and others trying to control the ball.
- Charging off the left wing came defender and captain Brady Treinen with a lethal right foot that was too much for the USD keeper to handle as it went off its leg and into the side of the net for a 1-0 UC Irvine lead.
The Toreros put the pressure on commanding possession, but weren't able to get a shot up until 20 minutes in and finished the half with three total shots
UCI had the other big chance in the half with Treinen distributing this time a perfect cross onto the head of Zac Smuck in the 33rd minute, but his shot hit the far post and stayed out

Bulls On Parade

Both teams played with urgency coming out of the half, and the were the beneficiaries netting a pair of goals.
- In the 53rd minute, USD played a ball wide on the right wing and swung a cross through. A pair of deflections helped the ball fall to Conner Gardenhour who put a shot on net that was initial stopped on the line by an 'Eater defender, but it bounced off another Anteater and on to tie things up, 1-1
- Just over two minutes later, the Toreros were threatening with a set piece along the left wing. The entry bounded to Tahj Eagleston who fired a shot that hit the post. The rebound went right back to him as he volleyed it back and in for the Torero 2-1 lead in the 55th minute
San Diego kept the momentum pouring on the shots with 11 total in the second half, but with few credible threats outside of a one fantastic diving stop by Scott Williams in the 62nd minute
UC Irvine had their share of possession and spent a lot of time in the attacking third, but struggled to find any shots of their own outside of a Ferran Duran blast in the 87th minute that was blocked away for a corner kick

#9 San Diego 2, UC Irvine 1

UC Irvine stays scoring with at least a goal in all five matches this season.
Brady Treinen's strike was just the second of his career in his 65th all-time match
- His other game came in the 13th match of his career as a freshman and also came against a ranked team in the first 10 minutes of a match
Scott Williams got his second start in goal for the 'Eaters stopping three shots

The Anteaters finish up their home stretch with a Sunday matchup, September 13, vs. UNLV kicking off at 6:00 p.m. in Anteater Stadium
