Anteater Baseball Signs 10 to Incoming Class
November 19, 2018 | Baseball
IRVINE, Calif. --- Wednesday marks the beginning of the newest early signing period, and UC Irvine baseball will welcome in 10 more to the Anteater family
Head Coach Ben Orloff took some time to break down each of the new 'Eaters to see what each will bring to the program in the coming years:
RHP- Peter Van Loon
- 6'5" 200
- Ohlone College
- JC Coach: Mike Curran
"Peter has a chance to be one of the better junior college pitchers in the state. He has a fastball that can already get into the low 90s that he can really command down in the zone to go along with a good breaking ball. He is a guy that should be able to step into the weekend rotation immediately."

RHP- Gordon Ingebritson
- 6'0" 175
- Pasadena City College
- JC Coach: Pat McGee
"Gordon gives us another experienced, junior college arm that should be able to pitch a lot right away. He had a big year at Pasadena City last year and finished last summer in the Cape Cod League. He is a very tough matchup for hitters and will be a valuable member of the pitching staff."

RHP- Anthony Corrales
-6'4" 185
- Roosevelt High School
- HS Coach: Kyle Billingsley
"Anthony is young for his grade and has big upside. He really came on later this summer/fall. He can reach 90 with his fastball and shows makings of a good slider. He will be fun to follow as he continues to grow and develop."

RHP- Jacob King
- 6'5" 210
- Buchanan High School
- HS Coach: Tom Donald
"Jacob is a very physical right handed pitcher. He has pitched in a prominent role his whole career at Buchanan. He saved 11 games as a sophomore. Jacob's toughness and competitiveness should have him contributing early in his career."

RHP- Cameron Wheeler
- 6'1" 192
- Mater Dei High School
- HS Coach: Richard Mercado
"Cameron has been a starting pitcher the last two years in the Trinity League. He's another guy that is young for his grade and will continue to develop. He has an advanced feel for two secondary pitches and will keep hitters off balance."

LHP- Nick Pinto
- 5'11" 170
- Tesoro High School
- HS Coach: Rick Brail
"Nick has turned himself into one of the better high school pitchers in the state. He pitches with a great tempo and fills up the strike zone. Nick is in the upper 80s with the fastball and has a curveball that gets swing and miss. He fits the mold of a future weekend starting pitcher."

OF- Luke Spillane- R/R
- 6' 0" 185
- Mission Viejo High School
- HS Coach: Chris Ashbach
"Luke is a perfect fit for what we look for in a high school outfielder. Luke has power at the plate and can really run and cover ground. He is the rare combination of a guy that can hit a home run, steal bases, and play in the middle of the diamond."

INF- Connor McGuire- R/R
- 5'11" 190
- Beckman High School
- HS Coach: Kevin Lavalle
"Connor is a player that we have really seen mature and develop over the last few years. He has really put in the work to turn himself into a very good baseball player. His strength gains have made him a guy that can get extra base hits and impact the game. On defense, he will be able to play all three infield positions at a high level."

INF- Braden Murphy- S/R
- 6'0" 175
- Cypress High School
- HS Coach: John Weber
"Braden is another guy that we feel can be a good defender at all three infield positions. Offensively he separates himself by his advanced feel for the strike zone and it's rare to find a good defensive infielder that can also hit from the left side of the plate."

C- Sebastian Garcia- R/R
- 5'11" 180
- St. Paul High School
- HS Coach: Mike Debelak
"Sebastian is a converted infielder that has only been catching for a few years. His ability to catch and throw should completely shut down the running game. Sebastian had a really good summer/fall and we are excited about having him here behind the plate."
