IRVINE, Calif. --- The nation's batting champ took home his third All-American honor of the 2017 campaign bringing home First Team honors from prestigious publication, Baseball America.
Hiura led the nation in batting average, at .442, and on-base percentage, at .567, while standing near the top in multiple offensive categories. He was recently named the Big West Field Player of the Year as a DH leading the Big West in most offensive categories.
Hiura's inclusion on Baseball America's team is a rare one as it's only the fourth appearance by an Anteater as the last Anteater to make it was Matt Summers back in 2011. Hiura's honor marks the first an Anteater position player has graced the list, and the first of any Anteater on the First Team. Previous honorees Matt Summers and Scott Gorgen, twice, were second and third team members.
The honor is the third Hiura has brought home thus far in 2017 joining recognition from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and College Sports Madness last week.
