ORLANDO, Fla. --- With the 2018 MLS SuperDraft quickly approaching, Major League Soccer held its annual Player Combine which included Anteater forward Giovanni Godoy.
The senior out of Watsonville, Calif. was the lone Big West representative for the combine from January 11th to the 17th as 60 of the top NCAA Division I men's soccer players showcased their skills in front of representatives from all 23 MLS clubs scouting the top college prospects ahead of the Jan. 19 MLS SuperDraft in Philadelphia.
"I'm excited for him, not only on the field but in the classroom," chimed in a proud head coach Yossi Raz. "He made a big transformation on how he views being a student-athlete, and it was great to see him rewarded with Big West Offensives Player of the Year honors, an invite to the combine, and a chance to fulfill his dream".
A committee of MLS coaches and NCAA D1 coaches from every conference selected the invitees, all of whom completed their college eligibility this season. They, along with possible additions leading up to the start date, were coached at the Combine by a mix of college soccer head coaches and MLS academy personnel.
"Godoy is very talented, and I think he will surprise people in his quality and versatility, and my hopes are that he can continue to grow in the game by landing somewhere and getting an opportunity to play."
