IRVINE, Calif. --- UCI dropped its home opener to Pepperdine, 6-1, Saturday at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
The squads battled in doubles before Pepperdine (2-0) pulled out the win at the No. 2 position.
The Waves rode the backs of five ranked singles players to score the remaining points for the win. Ali Facey, who sparked a doubles comeback with partner Franziska Goettsching, took No. 112 Michaela Capannolo to a third set before falling in the tiebreaker.
Sarah Stadfelt salvaged the sweep with a straight set win at No. 6, 6-4, 6-3.
UCI (1-3) heads back on the road to No. 48 San Diego State next week with a 2:00 p.m. match, Thurs. Feb. 6.
