Utvich, Sanderlin Convert 2-1 Comeback Win
September 16, 2012 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- UC Irvine brought the drama Sunday afternoon with two goals in the last five minutes to comeback for the 2-1 win over the Princeton Tigers.
After 18 shots and four saves from two different Princeton keepers, the Anteaters finally broke through as Rachel Wood fed a ball into the box that Jordan Utvich touched in in the 85th minute to finally reward their efforts.
Three minutes later, Utvich had the ball again as she launched a cross into the box. The players converged and the ball popped out to Dana Sanderlin sitting on the right side of the box to score the rebound and the eventual game-winner with 2:23 remaining.
Princeton (2-3-1) held tough after losing their starting goalkeeper to a red card in the 21st minute. Claire Pinciaro came out of the box to thwart a UCI breakaway and stopped the play with her hands leaving backup Kristin Watson in net and the Tigers down to 10 players for the remaining 69 minutes.
Corey Tobin got her first career win in net without stopping a shot. UCI (4-6-0) outshot the Tigers on the day 20-4 with six on target to Princeton's one.
Utvich and Sanderlin each converted their second of the season with Utvich also picking up her first assist on the game-winner. Wood also earned an assist; her first as an Anteater.
For UCI, they continue their tough road with a trip to San Diego to face the 15th-ranked Aztecs next Friday, Sept. 21st at 7:00 p.m.
