No. 11 UCI Draws, 1-1, with No. 17 Santa Clara

PALO ALTO, Calif.. --- No. 11 UCI used another second half goal to come from behind and finish in a 1-1 draw with No. 17 Santa Clara at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium on the campus of Stanford University.
The teams played a pretty even first half. Judy Christopher (Ontario / Upland HS) received a yellow card in the 13th minute. The squads traded shots after that until the 'Eaters took control of the shot count.
Santa Clara (3-0-3) would find the back of the net in the 38th minute as Cate Parchinski headed a corner kick from Meleana Shim.
UCI (5-0-1) would attack for the final five minutes firing three shots before Jennifer Randazzo (San Jose / Presentation HS) stopped a shot in the final minute, one of her three saves in the first half.
The 'Eaters would tie it up in the 52nd minute with Jordan Bruce (San Diego / Westview HS) assisting on Natalia Ledezma's (La Mirada / UCLA) fifth goal of the season.
The schools played an even half trading shots back and forth, but no love as the game went to overtime.
Both schools had a couple chances in the first overtime including a pair of shots on goal from Jenna Pellegrino (Poway / Poway HS).
UCI almost put the game away as Janelly Farias (Moreno Valley / University of New Mexico) bounded a shot off the post and Ledezma just missed on the rebound.
The Broncos had a final opportunity, but the game would end in a 1-1 draw.
Randazzo kept the 'Eaters in the game with seven saves.
No. 11 UCI is back on the pitch Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. against No. 2 Stanford.
