No. 2 Stanford Takes Down No. 11 UCI, 2-0

PALO ALTO, Calif.. --- No. 2 Stanford proved to be too much as the No. 11 'Eaters fell, 2-0 in Laird Q. Cagan Stadium in Palo Alto, Calif.

The Cardinal (6-0-1) held the possession in the first 20 minutes with six shots, one on goal.

The action quieted down for a little before the 'Eaters (5-1-1) managed their first shot in the 35th minute from Sarah Devine (San Diego / Poway HS) just wide. Janelly Farias (Moreno Valley / University of New Mexico) would respond with a shot of her own as time wound down in the half with the teams still scoreless.

Stanford would jump out of the gate quickly in the second half with five shots, three saved by Jennifer Randazzo (San Jose / Presentation HS) in the first 10 minutes.

UCI put their own rush up with a pair of shots, but Stanford would regain possession and counter with a couple shots.

Stanford would finally break the tie in the 70th minute with a goal from Chioma Ubogagu. Teresa Noyola would respond two minutes later to stretch the lead to 2-0.

UCI turned on the offense as Natalia Ledezma (La Mirada / UCLA) got UCI's first shot on goal in the 78th minute.

Stanford eventually ran the clock down handing UCI their first loss of the season.

Randazzo finished with five saves and saw a total of 19 shots by the Cardinal.

UCI returns back home for a Friday night match (7 p.m.) against Saint Mary's at Anteater Stadium.
