LSU Knocks Out UC Irvine With 21-7 Win at Baton Rouge Super Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. --- LSU made sure its final game in the current Alex Box Stadium was a memorable one with a 21-7 victory over UC Irvine in the deciding game of the Baton Rouge Super Regional Monday night.
With the win, the Tigers, 48-17-1 overall, advance to the College World Series beginning this weekend in Omaha.
LSU, the national No. 7 seed, scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back, putting seven runs across in the fifth. The Tigers hit seven home runs in the game and Blake Dean went 5 for 5 with 3 RBIs. LSU's first inning included back-to-back-to-back home runs by Dean, Micah Gibbs and Matt Clark.
UCI, which ends the season 42-18 overall, scored one run each in the third and fifth innings, two in the seventh and three in the eighth.
Dillon Bell went 3 for 3, including two doubles, and had two RBIs while senior catcher Aaron Lowenstein also had a pair of RBIs for Coach Mike Gillespie's club. Eric Deragisch had two hits and an RBI, plus he scored two runs for UCI.
Jordan Brown was credited with the win while UCI starter Bryce Stowell (8-3) received the loss.
The `Eaters were attempting to reach the CWS for the second straight season after going 2-2 in Omaha last year.
UCI has won 89 games over the past two seasons.
