IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team kicked off the Steve Scott Invitational with two event wins and two personal records Friday at Anteater Stadium.
Joshua Schuld won the steeplechase in 8:56.29. He shaved over 11 seconds off his season best for his first sub-9 minute race of the year.
Javin Schmitt finished ahead of the pack in Heat 2 of the 1500m Invitational, clocking a personal-record 3:51.66.
Duke Pascoe placed fifth overall, and was the top collegiate finisher in the hammer throw. He registered a lifetime-best 59.02 meters (193-7) on his fifth attempt, improving on his No. 6 mark in program history.
Griffin Cole claimed runner-up honors in the javelin with a toss of 59.21m (194-3), while Darrin Campbell took third at 57.36m (188-2).
Jake Reed cleared 4.67m (15-3.75) to tie for third in the pole vault. Alan Vuong added a top eight showing with a height of 1.94m (6-4.25) in the high jump.
