Hansen Serves Up Vital Series-Opening Win, 4-1

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine baseball scored a Thursday night win 4-1 over UC Davis in Anteater Ballpark to score its third straight Big West win
  • The series opened with a bang for the Anteaters as Palo Alto-native Rowan Felsch clubbed his first home run of the season deep to right-center to start the second inning off with a 1-0 lead
    • UCI continued its scoring in the inning with a two-out rally
    • Daniel Polasek reached on a throwing error with two outs to keep the inning going
    • Zach Doyle pounded a ball off the same wall Felsch hit one over for a triple and a 2-0 lead
  • UC Davis answered with a run in the next inning
    • Doyle tried to be a hero and make a diving play coming up short as the Aggies doubled to lead off the inning
    • A sac bunt and groundball later they were on the board trailing now, 2-1
  • UCI quickly got the run back loading the bases with two outs in the bottom of the third
    • A passed ball helped the run across for a 3-1 game
  • The pitching took over down the stretch with Trevor Hansen taking the lead and running with it
    • After stranding two runners in the fifth, he hit another gear and sat down the next 11 hitters
    • He struck out a batter in his first seven innings and got some defensive help in a 1-2-3 eighth inning
    • He struck out his ninth batter of the game to start the ninth before allowing a single to end his night after 118 pitches
  • Danny Suarez came in for the final two outs on four pitches to earn his first career save

  • For Hansen, its the third time in his career he's worked into the ninth inning
    • He fell two pitches shy of his career high 120 he threw in his complete game in 2025
    • It's his first win since February has he improves to 19-9 in his career in this his 40th career start
  • Suarez is the fourth Anteater to record a save this year, also the team's first since February
    • This first save also comes in his 40th career game and 93.1 IP of work
    • He also extended his shutout streak to 15.2 innings
  • The offense clicked behind 11 hits and extra bases on five of them
    • Zach Doyle had two out of the leadoff spot driving in a run as well
    • Auggie Gutierrez also had two hits including a run scored
    • Felsch's home run is the fifth of his career and first since the 2025 series at UC Davis
    • Efren Ortega busted a two-out double to bring in an RBI and UCI's fourth run in the fifth inning
    • Daniel Polasek finally got his first career hit, a bloop single in the fourth. He also scored his first career run in the second inning
