Anteaters Snag Saturday Win over UC Santa Barbara, 6-3

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine baseball rebounding nicely with a Saturday 6-3 over UC Santa Barbara at Anteater Ballpark to even the series.
  • The Gauchos again sprung into the lead scoring a leadoff double on a two-out passed ball for a 1-0 advantage in the second inning.
  • UCI roared back in the third to take their first lead of the weekend
    • The first three 'Eaters reached base putting Tommy Farmer in position to triple the other way and score all of them and make it 3-1, UCI
    • Daniel Polasek's sac fly brought in Farmer to make it a four-run inning
  • UCSB answered with a pair of two-out hits to score runs in the next half-inning. A ground-rule double kept the tying run from scoring as UCI held on to the 4-3 lead
  • Alonso Reyes pelted a home run to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning to get some more breathing room, 5-3
  • Frankie Carney had a two-out hit for the sixth Anteater run in the seventh, his fourth hit of the day
UC Irvine 6, UC Santa Barbara 3
  • Ricky Ojeda was the story of the day going 5.1 shutout innings of relief to earn the win and lock down the Gaucho bats
    • He allowed just one hit and walked one with three strikeouts
    • He immediately came in and retired the first 12 hitters he faced including stranding two runners in the fourth
    • Finnegan Wall went 3.2 innings as the starter striking out a pair and allowing two earned runs
  • Carney's four hit day was part of nine UCI hits and he drove in a run
    • Farmer's triple was his third to lead the team and lifted him to 15 RBIs this season
    • Reyes' home run was the first of his career at home and second overall of the season
    • Notably was Efren Ortega reaching three times and scoring once, and Zach Fjelstad scoring twice on both times he reached
