'Eaters Set Two Top-10 Marks on Final Day in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's track & field team had several standout performances to close out action at the Beach Opener Saturday at Jack Rose Track.
 
Junior transfer Catalina Teran made an impressive Anteater debut in the 200m where she clocked a personal-record 23.61. Teran was second in a field of 35 sprinters, and her time ranks second in program history.
 
Sophomore Pinkie Schnayer finished first in the shot put and improved on her No. 5 mark in school history with a lifetime-best 14.94 meters (49-0.25). Schnayer overtook Maryland's Ella O'Neall on her final attempt to take home her fourth career event win. Senior Nyla Baker added a third-place showing (14.52m/47-7.5) in the shot put and a fifth-place performance in the discus (47.69m/156-5).
 
Junior Kaitlene Ofilan was the runner-up in the 800m, crossing the finish line in a personal-best 2:16.47. Sophomore Arden Keeton also clocked a PR 2:17.38 to come in fourth, while freshman Kaitlin Kenney was sixth (2:18.74).
 
Sophomore Daisy Penney led a quartet of 'Eaters in the 1500m, placing fifth out of 32. Penney registered a time of 4:53.97. Sophomore Breckyn Kornachuk was a few seconds back in fifth, running a personal-record 4:56.42.
 
UC Irvine is back in action next weekend at the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton, March 12-13.
