Anteaters Hold Top Four Spots After Day 1 of Big West Heptathlon

IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's track & field team holds the top four spots in the heptathlon standings after the first day of the Big West Multi-Event Championships Friday at Anteater Stadium.
Freshman and school record holder Joy Anderson sits in first with 3,478 points. Senior Jazmine Davis is also second with 3,380 points. Seniors Zharia Taylor (3,287) and Jolie Robinson (3,274) are third and fourth, respectively.
Anderson finished third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.93 seconds. She then cleared a season-best 1.74 meters (5-8.5) in the high jump. Anderson tied for first with Taylor and took over sole possession of sixth in the UCI record books. In the shot put, Anderson opened with a toss of 11.32m (37-1.75), which stood as her best of the competition. She closed out action with the top 200m time of the meet at 24.10.
Davis got out to a fast start, scoring 1,071 points with a 100m hurdle personal-record 13.36. She led the field and moved up to No. 2 in school history. Davis then cleared 1.56 meters (5-1.25) in the high jump. She also established a lifetime-best 12.08m (39-7.75) in the shot put, before closing out the meet with a time of 24.28 in the 200m.
Taylor ran a season-best 14.46 in the 100H. She then tied for first with Anderson in the high jump, clearing 1.74m (5-8.5). Taylor did not miss at her first three heights. In the shot put, she registered a lifetime-best 11.72m (38-5.5) on her second attempt. She wrapped up the afternoon with a season-best 25.66 in the 200m.
Robinson clocked a personal-best 14.20 in the 100m hurdles. She followed with a clearance of 1.59m (5-2.5) in the high jump. In the shot put, Robinson took the early lead with a mark of 12.61m (41-4.5). That held as her best of the afternoon and put her second in the field. The two-time Big West champion then ran a season-best 24.88 in the 200m.
The Big West heptathlon will conclude with the long jump, javelin, and 800m on Saturday, May 9, starting at 12:30 p.m.
