No. 8 Anteaters Bounce Back with 8-4 Sunday Win

IRVINE, Calif. —- UC Irvine baseball salvaged the weekend in Anteater Ballpark winning 8-4 Sunday over UC San Diego. 
  • The Anteater bats woke up with a two-run first thanks to a lead off walk by Will Bermudez who came around on a wild pitch, and an Anthony Martinez double off the left field wall to score another and lead 2-0
  • UCSD got back even in the second with a two-out single to make it 2-2
  • UCI swung the lead back on its side with Rowan Felsch and Frankie Carney doubles for a 3-2 lead
  • UCI added to its lead with two unearned runs in the fifth, and added three in the sixth highlighted by a two-out Will Bermudez homer to go up 8-3
  • The Tritons kept it close with solo home runs in the sixth and seventh for an 8-4 score
  • UCI pitching held its own shutting the Tritons down the final three innings thanks to scoreless innings by David Butler and Max Martin
    • Ryder Brooks carried the load going 4.2 innings striking out six with three runs allowed
    • Ricky Ojeda took the win in 2.1 innings bridging the middle innings to improve to 12-0
  • UCI's offense rolled through big days at the plate by Will Bermudez and Anthony Martinez
    • Bermudez clubbed his second homer of the year going 1-for-1 with two runs and RBIs, a walk, and two successful sacrifices
    • Martinez reached five times on a 4-for-4 day and two RBIs
  • The 'Eaters improve to 34-11 and win its 20th Big West contest
