LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's tennis team continued both singles and doubles action at the Big West Fall Selection Event Friday at UC San Diego.
 
Three Anteaters put up a fight in the Round of 32, but their main draw singles run came to an end. Carolyna Fowler won her first set before UCSD's Olivia Allegre stormed back for the 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 win.
 
Haily Huynh also pushed Cecilia Costa of Long Beach State to a third set in a tough 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-1 loss. Maily Huynh, who was pitted against second-seeded Shachf Lieberman (UC Santa Barbara), fell 6-0, 6-1.
 
Yen Nhi Huynh had an impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory over UC Riverside's Kaia Paulo in the main draw consolation round.
 
In extra matches, UCI earned three straight-set singles wins. Bella Pitchford defeated Cal Poly's Olivia Mlouk, 6-3, 6-4. Freshmen Mackenzie Lukin and Sayuri Parandian were also triumphant in their collegiate debuts. Lukin made quick work of Annette Robertson (CSUN), 6-2, 6-2, while Parandian took down Sam Condevillamar (UCR), 6-3, 6-2.
 
In doubles, Pitchford and Lukin teamed up to blank Penelope Wong and Sophia Sappa of UC Davis, 6-0, in an extra match.
 
The 'Eaters return to action at the Big West Fall Selection Event on Saturday, Oct. 4.
