UCI to resume Big West Play Against UC Riverside and Hawai'i

| By:

IRVINE, Calif. — UC Irvine women's tennis (9-5, 0-2) will resume Big West Conference play against UC Riverside and Hawai'i this week. UCI will take on the Highlanders at home on Monday (Mar. 23) before getting three days off and heading to Honolulu to face the Rainbow Wahine on Friday (Mar. 27).

Notes

  • UC Irvine enters the pair of conference matches after a loss capped off an otherwise successful five-match non-conference homestand where the Anteaters went 4-1 and ultimately grew its win streak to seven consecutive matches

  • The seven-match win streak that UCI ripped off started against Portland (Feb. 20) and closed against Richmond (Mar. 10). The winning stretch was UC Irvine's longest since the 2013-14 season, when UCI won 11 in a row during a 17-7 overall season

  • Bella Pitchford is coming off of a stellar homestand for the Anteaters, winning all five of her singles matches and going 4-1 in doubles play with partner Quin Brady

  • UCI sits at 9-5, its best start through 14 games since starting 10-4 in the 2022-23 season

Scouting UC Riverside

Currently on a five-match losing streak, UCR (3-13, 0-5) will enter Monday's match against UCI after competing against Omaha on Mar. 21. The Highlanders have dropped conference matches to UC Santa Barbara, Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State and UC Davis in its first portion of conference play and will be looking to pick up its first Big West victory on the season against UC Irvine.

UC Riverside is led by No. 1 line singles player Ramey Yu, who is 8-5 on the season in singles and has gone 1-4 in Big West play.

First serve against UCR will be at 2:00 p.m.

Scouting Hawai'i

Hawai'i (5-4, 2-0) will host UCI for a Friday evening bout in Honolulu. The match will be UC Irvine's first away from home since the Anteaters visited Occidental College on Feb. 26.
The Rainbow Wahine will have only played 10 matches to UC Irvine's 15 at the time of Friday's first serve, but have picked up two crucial wins in Big West Conference play over UC San Diego and Long Beach State. Hawai'i is led by Hannah Galindo in singles, who has gone 7-2 throughout her first nine matches in the format.

First serve against the Rainbow Wahine will be at 7:00 p.m. PST.
